The word “Aman” means “peace, quietness” in Sanskrit. The Aman Hotel was founded by Adrian Zecha, which is one of the most famous resort hotel in the world. “It doesn’t compare with any other, incomparable as it were.”

Just outside downtown Shanghai, located in Maqiao Town, an ancient camphor forest sets the scene for Aman's fourth destination in China—Amanyangyun, just like a quite village in a bustling city. Combined with 4000-year Maqiao culture, 1000-year old trees as well as 300-year old mansions of Hui-style, this introspective retreat belies a remarkable tale of a forest transported, and a history preserved. Walking on the stones and bricks delicately arranged and paved in these vernacular buildings preserved from Ming and Qing dynasties, a unique cultural ambience surrounds every visitor. Saved from demolition, these Ming- and Qing-dynasty dwellings have been reassembled, brick by ancient brick, to create peaceful, refined spaces.

Aman has been always pursuing the beauty of modest luxury, nibbling in every single part. For Amanyangyun, ten whole years have been taken to do makeovers of 32 Hui-style ancient dwellings, crafting into 13 Antique Villas and 24 Ming Courtyard Suites, preserving courtyard-centered space pattern, setting public spaces in the middle and private ones on both sides.

Aman extremely admires “creativeness” and “refinement”, which are also the pursuit of NorthGlass. This time, upon request, NorthGlass provided Aman with three kinds of high-level glass: high-level double-Ag Low-E coated glass, laminated glass and tempered glass, to make an appropriate embellishment. Seeing through these glass curtain walls, fine view outside rooms naturally jump into tenants’ eyes, in and out, all in harmony.

A piece of lawn, a couple of ancient camphor trees; A white-painted wall, a row of tall bamboos – all these tasteful shadows, seeing from clear glass windows in the wall, are vividly dancing in the sunlight, startlingly interplaying with interior beam, column, shelve, floor screen, brush pot, bedstead, etc….
