When NorthGlass Purity Meets the Poetic Spirit of Dior
Recently, the Dior House at Taikoo Li Sanlitun in Beijing officially opened its doors. As Dior’s largest retail presence in China and the brand’s third Dior House worldwide, the flagship represents a new landmark where fashion, architecture, and craftsmanship converge. Its sculptural façade—defined by petal-like forms—features a highly transparent glass curtain wall custom-engineered by NorthGlass, creating a poetic dialogue between light, space, and nature.
Designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Christian de Portzamparc, the Sanlitun Dior House is characterized by fluid lines that shape pointed arches reminiscent of unfolding petals. The design evokes the flowing contours of haute couture gowns once cut by Christian Diorhimself—frozen in motion, suspended in architectural form.
Behind the petal-inspired envelope lies a full suite of high-performance glass solutions supplied by NorthGlass, achieving a refined balance between exceptional visual clarity and outstanding energy efficiency. The glazed bricks on the main façade shimmer in gold, echoing symbols of elegance and nobility deeply rooted in Chinese culture. More than an architectural statement, the building embodies a seamless fusion of Dior’s timeless elegance with a contemporary design language.
Sustainability was a core consideration in the architect’s vision, requiring the curtain wall to strike a delicate balance between maximum transparency and high thermal performance. To meet this challenge, NorthGlass developed a bespoke composite glass configuration—double laminated, double insulated, and single laminated layers—forming an efficient thermal barrier. This solution significantly reduces heating and cooling energy consumption, while also filtering UV radiation and enhancing acoustic comfort.
With its exceptional light transmission and pristine visual quality, NorthGlass glazingdissolves the boundary between interior and exterior, allowing Dior’s displays to extend naturally into the surrounding streetscape. At night, interior lighting gently radiates outward through the façade, working in harmony with the petal-like structure to give the building a warm, lantern-like glow.
This collaboration once again demonstrates NorthGlass’s ability to empower architectural art through innovation. Glass is no longer merely a building material, but a high-performance medium that integrates aesthetic expression, environmental responsiveness, and sustainable values. Through its premium solutions, NorthGlass continues to support iconic global architecture—helping it shine today while shouldering responsibility for the future.
