In Shenzhen’s Dachan Bay, a “future building floating above the coastline” is becoming a new landmark of the city.

Designed by MAD Architects, Tencent Shenzhen Headquarters — Tengyun Center — breaks away from traditional concepts of corporate headquarters. With “floating” as its core design philosophy, the main structure is elevated above the ground, allowing the space below to return to the city and become a shared place for people. In this building standing above the bay, glass serves as a transparent connection between architecture and nature.

Leveraging its advanced ultra-large arc-length glass processing technology, NorthGlass integrates lightness, transparency, and safety performance, perfectly presenting the open and floating character of the “Cloud Buildings.”

Ultra-Large Glass, Expanding the Possibilities of Architecture

Tencent’s three Cloud Buildings resemble floating clouds unfolding along the bay, creating a dialogue between future architecture, the sky, the ocean, and the city. NorthGlass’ ultra-large arc-length glass allows natural light and ocean views to flow seamlessly into the interior space — extending the dialogue between architecture and nature beyond the building envelope and bringing it within reach.

At the Tengyun Center project, NorthGlass high-performance glass products are applied in key architectural areas, featuring six-layer laminated glass and double laminated insulated glass configurations, with a total supplied area of approximately 7,700 square meters. Among them, the maximum arc length of a single glass panel reaches 6.8 meters, with a height of 3.1 meters. These large curved panels follow the building’s flowing geometry, creating a continuous and seamless curved façade.

Dissolving Boundaries with Glass, Allowing Architecture to Embrace Nature

The ultra-long arc-length glass used in Tengyun Center reduces visual segmentation commonly found in traditional curtain walls, creating a more complete visual experience where the coastline, sky, and architectural space merge together.

To achieve the architect’s vision, the project required extremely high standards in processing precision, structural safety, and product reliability. The glass had to simultaneously meet demanding requirements for safety performance, optical quality, and architectural aesthetics under ultra-large dimensions.

A Single Glass Panel, Opening a Window to the Ocean

At Tengyun Center, approximately 80% of workstations face the bay, allowing employees to experience the changing scenery where the sky meets the sea during daily work. The Cloud Lounge at the southern end uses expansive transparent glass surfaces to open up views toward the ocean, transforming the natural bay into a backdrop for meetings, communication, and creative inspiration.

From the curved glass applications at the OPPO Shenzhen Super Headquarters to the ultra-large-scale glass solutions at Tencent Tengyun Center, NorthGlass continues to explore the boundaries between glass technology and architectural art.
