One of the World’s Most Complex Glass Curtain Wall Projects | NorthGlass’ Technological Innovation and Professional Service Recognized by OPPO
On August 15, the Outstanding Individual Award Ceremony for the OPPO Headquarters Curtain Wall Project was held at Tianjin NorthGlass. Mr. Zhai, the project owner’s representative, presented the “Outstanding Individual Award” to Li Shunbo, Production Manager of the Glass Deep Processing Division of NorthGlass, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to overcoming challenges throughout the project, together with the NorthGlass team. Core members of the NorthGlass project team and representatives from the project owner attended the ceremony to witness this important moment.
Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the OPPO Headquarters project features a highly futuristic architectural form, with glass curtain wall requirements ranking among the most demanding in the world. The project involves approximately 70,000 m² of glass, with more than half consisting of single-curved and multi-curved glass panels. No two pieces are identical, making the manufacturing process extremely challenging. Through a global supplier selection process, NorthGlass stood out among numerous internationally recognized suppliers and became the sole glass supplier for the project. The project owner commented:“NorthGlass not only possesses the technical capabilities required to overcome world-class challenges, but also demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility and an unwavering commitment to delivering on its mission.”
The journey was far from easy. During the early stage of the project, the complexity of the double-curved glass manufacturing process limited monthly production capacity to just over 30 pieces. Facing this challenge, NorthGlass’ Tempering Equipment Division and Glass Deep Processing Division formed a dedicated task force to systematically redesign and optimize every critical process, including tempering and lamination. After months of continuous efforts, NorthGlass successfully increased the monthly production capacity of double-curved glass to more than 300 pieces, providing a crucial foundation for continuous curtain wall installation and ensuring the project’s successful completion on schedule.
Project leader Mr. Zhai visited the NorthGlass facility five times to review progress and conducted on-site follow-ups on production progress every quarter. He witnessed firsthand NorthGlass’ continuous investment in equipment upgrades, technological advancement, and management improvements for the project.
He specifically highlighted:“Throughout years of collaboration and refinement, the NorthGlass project team never showed the slightest sign of complacency or slackening. They remained on-site around the clock, fully coordinating design, production, and quality inspection processes, while proactively seeking solutions to overcome every challenge.”
It was this dedication and service commitment that gave both the owner and construction teams confidence throughout the project.
The presentation of the “Outstanding Individual Award” to Li Shunbo represents not only recognition of his personal contribution, but also strong recognition of NorthGlass’ philosophy of “customer-oriented, full-cycle service.” Mr. Zhai stated:“This award reflects NorthGlass’ commitment to getting things done. They have proven themselves not only through their products, but also through their service.”
The OPPO Headquarters project is not only another milestone in China’s architectural glass industry’s pursuit of world-class technological breakthroughs, but also a demonstration to the industry that the competition in advanced manufacturing depends not only on decades of accumulated expertise in glass tempering technology, but also on NorthGlass’ dedication and commitment to taking every customer’s challenge as seriously as its own when facing extreme engineering demands.
