Imagine a giant dome tent with a roof decorated with dragon scales, and NorthGlass shining in the sun, reflecting the grand vision of a future office space. This is Google's Bay View Campus (Bay View), jointly created by BIG and Heatherwick, which locates in Mountain View, California, consisting of three buildings built in eight years and can accommodate 4,000 employees. The design of the building is inspired by the “large Bedouin tent”, and its unique “dragon scale” roof consists of 50,000 photovoltaic panels that can generate nearly 7 megawatts of electricity, which not only achieves energy self-sufficiency, but also adds a unique visual effect to the building.
Google's new headquarters, Bay View Campus, as Google's new Google campus, has an ambitious goal of achieving full-year carbon-free energy operations by 2030. In this landmark project, NorthGlass provided 13,000 ㎡ of high-performance building glass, it’s a new model to explore the future of building materials.
2,100 pieces of high-performance Low-E insulating glass, the maximum size of 5.5 meters x2 meters, using three silver coating + enamel configuration, the enamel is mainly used to prevent birds from hitting. Performance of the original film and membrane system ensure the visual aesthetic, but they also face great challenges.
Due to the high and narrow glass size, the silver coated surface is not easy to absorb heat, resulting in uneven heating process and flatness is difficult to control; on the contrary, the enamel is easy to absorb heat. Therefore, in the process of tempering production, it is necessary to repeatedly adjust the tempering heating parameters, to ensure the high quality and high flatness of the glass.
In addition, NorthGlass pays attention to every detail in the process of glass processing, from the selection of raw materials to the detection of finished products, every link has been carefully controlled and strict testing, to ensure that each piece of glass transported to the site can meet the expected performance indicators and quality standards.
NorthGlass glass not only has excellent thermal insulation performance, but also has excellent optical performance, which evenly distributes the light inside the building and reduces the interference of glare to the working environment.
Google Bay View Campus, with a total area of about 100,000 square meters. The campus contains 80,000 square meters of open space and two office buildings, an activity center for 1,000 people and a unit for 240 employees.
As a model project for the future of office space, Google Bay View Campus demonstrates the tech giants' pursuit of sustainable development and innovative office space. The high-performance glass supplied by NorthGlass not only meets high standards in technology and quality, but also plays an important role in achieving the operational goal of carbon-free energy sources. In the future, NorthGlass will continue to adhere to the concept of innovation and sustainable development, provide excellent glass solutions for more projects, and promote the construction industry to develop in a greener and more efficient direction.
