On August 13, 2026, the second drafting meeting for the mandatory national standard “Basic Technical Requirements for Safety of Building Curtain Walls, Doors and Windows” was successfully held at the Luoyang NorthGlass High-End Equipment Industrial Park. Organized by the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Building Curtain Walls, Doors and Windows and the China Academy of Building Research, and hosted by NorthGlass, the meeting brought together representatives from research institutes, architectural design institutes, testing organizations, related enterprises, and invited experts from across the industry to jointly advance the development of this mandatory national standard.

▲ Zhang Xichen, Secretary-General of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Building Curtain Walls, Doors and Windows and Director of the National Quality Inspection and Testing Center for Building Curtain Walls and Windows, delivered the opening remarks.

Director Zhang Xichen introduced the standardization work of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Building Curtain Walls, Doors and Windows. He emphasized that “Basic Technical Requirements for Safety of Building Curtain Walls, Doors and Windows” is the first mandatory national standard in the field of curtain walls, doors, and windows. The standard will define fundamental safety requirements for the design, manufacturing, and application of curtain walls, doors, and windows, playing an important role in improving the overall safety level of China’s building envelope industry. He expressed the hope that industry stakeholders would unite their efforts to establish unified standards and jointly promote the safe and standardized development of the curtain wall and window industry.

Representing the host company, Li Chunchao of NorthGlass delivered a speech, stating that as essential components of a building’s external envelope system, the safety of curtain walls and windows is fundamental to the development of the industry. Hosting this standard drafting meeting is both an honor and a responsibility. NorthGlass will continue to prioritize safety, integrating safety management throughout the entire process of R&D, manufacturing, and engineering applications, while contributing practical industry experience to the effective implementation of the standard.

The drafting group meeting was chaired by Liu Huitao, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Building Curtain Walls, Doors and Windows. Invited experts including Gu Taichang, Huang Xiaokun, Qiu Rixiang, Du Jiyu, as well as drafting representatives Wang Hongtao, Jiang Ren, Sun Zhou, Hu Zhongming, and Bai Qi’an, conducted in-depth discussions around the theme of “Safety”. Drawing on perspectives from standard research, engineering design, manufacturing, and testing verification, participants explored approaches to ensuring the safety of curtain walls and windows throughout their entire life cycle, providing valuable practical insights for the standard development.

The meeting fully recognized the progress achieved in the preliminary drafting work. Participants conducted detailed discussions on the draft standard, clarified the key contents and development direction, and established the timeline and responsibilities for the next phase of the drafting process.

During the meeting, all drafting representatives visited the NorthGlass production facilities to gain firsthand knowledge of tempering equipment manufacturing, architectural glass processing technologies, and quality control systems. The visit provided valuable industrial insights for further optimizing the standard provisions.

As a mandatory national standard, “Basic Technical Requirements for Safety of Building Curtain Walls, Doors and Windows” focuses on key safety issues in building curtain wall and window systems, aiming to establish essential technical safety requirements for the industry. Once issued and implemented, the standard will provide mandatory technical guidance for various stages, including architectural design, manufacturing, construction, and acceptance inspection, promoting standardized and high-quality development across the industry.

The meeting successfully completed all scheduled discussions and tasks. Moving forward, the leading organizations will incorporate expert feedback from the meeting, revise and improve the draft standard, and steadily advance the subsequent drafting process. NorthGlass will continue to actively participate in national standard development, leveraging its industry expertise to contribute to standard development and working with the industry to safeguard building safety.
