TaiKoo Place, Hong Kong
NorthGlass super glass, creating a better life
Located in the Eastern District of Hong Kong Island, TaiKoo Place is one of the most complete commercial districts in Hong Kong and is constantly innovating and evolving. In the early 1990s, Swire Properties planned to convert three factory buildings into premium office towers called "One Pacific Place" and "Two Pacific Place". From the podium of "One" to the delivery of glass for the whole building of "Two", NorthGlass Glass Deep Processing BU played an important role in the innovation and evolution of the curtain wall glass in Taikoo Place.
One Taikoo Place
The "one" podium is equipped with 17.1 meters of NorthGlass super glass, which has large engineering glass specifications, special varieties configuration and complex production process. The straightness of the glass polishing quality is very high, and the stacking difference of multiple laminated pairs including 45 degree beveled edge is within 1mm. At the same time, the 5-layer super wide beveled edge panels are required to be glued to the frame with extremely high precision, and the error is controlled within 2mm.
The requirements of glass extra-long polishing quality straightness are very high. The stacking difference of the multi-layered pairs of the 45 degree bevelled edge is required to be within 1mm. At the same time, the 5-layer extra wide bevelled edge panels are glued to the frame with extremely high precision, with errors controlled to within 2mm.
The glass curtain wall of "Phase I" consists of 22 panels and 18 glass ribs, which makes the lobby transparent and magnificent. The three glass walls, with right-angle glass 45 degree beveled edge splicing at the corners, have no blind spot in the vision. The completion of this project not only set a new record for glass size, but also drove the technological development of transportation, installation and other related industries, leading the trend and making the universal use of oversized glass in buildings possible.
Two Taikoo Place
Based on the perfect effect of the glass presented by NorthGlass, the curtain wall glass of Two Taikoo Place, including the podium and the tower, with a total of 33,000 square meters, was all built by NorthGlass. This includes a wide variety of glass types with complex techniques, such as extra-wide square double silver coated tempered glass for the tower, 3D multi-curved tempered glass, extra-large curved tempered glass, and tapered curved tempered glass.

The newly completed Two Pacific Place, standing 195 meters tall, is equipped with 3x3 meters glass of double silver coated tempered glass for the main building, and a podium of up to 15 meters of extra-thick hollow laminated tempered glass envelope without any glass ribs, providing maximum transparency and open views for Pacific Place. The glass panes provided by NorthGlass give the building magnificent lines and outstanding color. In particular, the design of tapered curved steel at the four corners of the building achieves a perfect transition of curved lines.
In the project of Two Taikoo Place, NorthGlass faced several challenges. First of all, the main glass is designed with 3 meters square, which greatly enhances the viewing field of the interior. However, the square glass has extremely high tempering requirements, especially the flatness of the glass edge, which is the key to ensure the quality of the building appearance. NorthGlass adopts the self-developed top series of tempering furnace, the optimized furnace configuration and super symmetric heating technology making the wind spot lighter.
Secondly, the project adopts high performance double silver coating, plus the square layout of 3 meters, which posed a great challenge to the tempering processing of glass and requires a short time from cutting to hollowing. NorthGlass strictly controls the process parameters to meet the glass energy saving and color requirements, which makes the whole building have gorgeous lines and uncommon color, like jade moistening in the daytime and bright and beautiful in the night.
In addition, the four corners of the overall building of Two Taikoo Place are designed with a tapered bend that tapers from the bottom to the top layer by layer to achieve a perfect transition of the arc. This requires the glass to maintain roundness and consistency in the bending process to reveal the building's gorgeous lines and elegant color.
Two Taikoo Place has been pre-certified at the Platinum level by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Building Environmental Assessment Method (BEAM Plus) and WELL Building Certification, setting a new standard for energy performance in the development of Pacific Place projects. NorthGlass has always been committed to improving the quality of architectural glass and deeply practicing the concept of sustainable development, assisting architects at home and abroad to achieve their goals and visions of sustainable development.
The successful completion of a series of projects in Taikoo marked a significant breakthrough for NorthGlass in large-scale high-quality architectural glass, demonstrating NorthGlass' excellent capabilities in technology and craftsmanship.
