The East Hall of the Shanghai Library —— a sculpture floating above canopy in the park

Inside the library, the vertical open reading space revolves around a large atrium that connects different functional areas of the library with natural light filling the interior through sintered glass bands around the building and a large sunroof above the central atrium. Three staggered reading rooms arranged around the atrium, low walls and open seats enhance a sense of transparency and space. Curved wooden walls, bookshelves and floors bring warmth to the modern interior.

The East Hall of Shanghai Library is the representative of them. The project adopts imitative marbled digital printed SGP laminated glass. The maximum size of a single piece is 6 meters, all of them are different. At the same time, the designer requires the glass surface to present a complete marble texture. Due to the characteristics of the glass to light refraction and reflection, the difficulty cannot be imagined in order to achieve the marble surface texture. To achieve this goal, Tianjin NorthGlass organized personnel to marble manufacturers for research, from the color, saturation, brightness, detailed contrast, gradually formed a color scheme.
Subsequently, Tianjin NorthGlass organized specialists to establish a technical team to strictly control the product quality from ink ratio to printing and debugging, from picture processing to tempered comparison, from printing control to the inspection of finished products. And the final samples were very satisfied with the owners and designers.
Tianjin NorthGlass produced products by independently developed T furnace equipment with “zero defect” glass precision requirements, strictly controlled tempered waveform and used embossed glass to achieve diffuse effect; at the same time, the realistic color degree was printed after many tests, which makes the huge “sculpture” is beautiful with the surrounding landscape.
