The Longgang“Skywalk Over the Cloud”is located in Yunyang County of Chongqing City. It is constructed on the top of the cliff of 1010m high, protruding high up in the air from the cliff edge like an growing cliff flower. Down there is the totally open 718m-deep canyon. The skywalk is roughly 50m long, 3.4m wide, overhanging 26.68m outside. The overhanging part is 5m longer than that of world-famous US Grand Canyon Skywalk. Both the skywalk ground and its guard bar are wholly transparent to present a 360°unobstructed view. Walking on the skywalk, you can not only panoramically overlook the whole Longgang view, Stalagmite River, Gaixia Dam Resevoir, but also impressively experience the feeling of“dangling standing” and “walking in the air”.

Early last year, Luoyang Glass Corporation, one of the subsidiaries of NorthGlass Group, took over the “Skywalk Over the Cloud”project for the Longgang scenic spot and received the highly strict requirements from Longgang administrators upon both the thrilling visual experience and high-standard safety. Nearly 3 months have been spent on the initial specialist plan demonstration, glass sample destructive tests as well as the glass size examination.

NorthGlass finally passed the audit and acceptance test through highly strict process and quality control, the glass panels presented are far beyond Longgang administrators’expectation.

The glass products customized by NorthGlass for Longgang “Skywalk  over the cloud" are three-layer super clear SGP laminated glass, which is different from the ordinary tempered PVB laminated glass panels used for other skywalk bridges. This is NorthGlass’another pioneering practice. The optical quality, strength, durability and safety of the glass provided are largely promoted. It is reported that the skywalk can bear load of 9 tons per square meter, with the total load bearing of more than 1000 tons. In addition, the bonding material between the glass panels also has pretty high strength, even just the tension of which is enough to bear both weights of  the visitor and the glass panel itself. Visitors’each step on the skywalk is supported by advanced technologies and numerous patents, to say the least.

Longgang administrators are convinced of their first cooperation with NorthGlass for the “Skywalk Over the Cloud”, they expected NorthGlass to accept a new task of re-building cliff skywalk——“Hand-in-hand Skywalk”: Changing wooden corridor into three-layer super clear SGP laminated glass walkway.

We have made many skywalks. But comparatively speaking, this “Hand-in-hand Skywalk”is the biggest adventure, the construction of which is also the most difficult.” One of the skywalk construction technicians, Chen Xiaolong said. Regarding the glass manufacturing process, as each piece of glass panel is of irregular shape, and some glass panels are too big and too heavy, these glass panels transporting between different processes became rather difficult. Especially, the high-precision curved laminated glass that never made by other glass manufacturers before makes the processing undoubtedly more difficult.

Due to the tight construction period and high demand, the leading group of Luoyang Glass Corporation spared no effort to unite planning and production departments to together draw up the scheme and managed to deliver the order in a short time. It is exactly NorthGlass spirit to put every customer’s time and benefit at the top of priority, even one short-term cooperation can witness its quick reliability.

With the final two remaining glass panels being installed at the end of April this year, the whole acceptance test work of the“Hand-in-hand skywalk”project was finished before the scenic spot opening planned in May. While for Luoyang Glass Corporation, they are fully ready for next new challenge.
